Whats the easiest way to put a metal eyelet in cotton material?

How do i do it? What would be the easiest way? Do i need to make the hole first? and how big?

All the other questions on here about eyelets are relating to scrapboking, i want to know about how to do it for clothing.

you need to buy an eyelet setter tool. you punch a hole in the fabric first. The eyelet will come in two pieces (a front and a back) put on eyelet through the hole, then put the other on the other side. Use the eyelet setter (you will need a hammer). Follow the directions on the eyelet setter and you will be fine. Make sure that the front part of the eyelet is on the front of your fabric. Also, make sure that your hole isnt too close to the edge of the fabric, otherwise, it will rip out if you try to lace it. If you dont use an eyelet setter tool, your eyelets will be crushed when you hit them with the hammer. If you buy cheap eyelets at walmart or a fabric store, they will usually come with a little eyelet setter. If not, they are only about $2. Eyelets are really easy to use once you get the hang of it but you wont know how easy it until you buy some and try it.
