How To Find The Best Shaped Dress For Your Figure
Finding the perfect dress for the corporate Christmas party is not only about the colour of pattern but the shape and style of the dress too. Trinny and Susannah, the ultimate fashion police have taught us to wear clothes which suit our figure and present it at its best. So here's a reminder from Christmas party organisers, Christmas Corporation on how to make the best of your figure at the Christmas party in 2010.
Finding out what style is best for you is about understanding your figure first of all, so have a decent look at your body shape without clothes and try to identify it. Here's a list of body shapes and what will suit them best this season.
The Triangle
If you are a triangle, you should have a top heavy body with fuller boobs and a tiny waist and hips, effectively becoming literally a triangle shape. This body shape fits wonderfully with Christmas party dresses that are sleek and sexy, as you are best suited to figure hugging dresses with low cut tops. For the 2010 Christmas party season, you can wear the hottest clothes out there from maxi tight fitting dresses, halter necks and the fashionable jumpsuit.
What to avoid: high necks never go well with bigger breasts, nor do shoulder pads complement a top heavy triangle.
The Apple
The Apple has a rounder middle area with slim legs, so try to draw away attention away from the tummy area by emphasizing your curves and legs, thus empire lined dresses are perfect for emphasizing an Apple's other attributes. Empire lined dresses have a high waist line, just under the bust, and a looser more flowing bottom half, which skims over the stomach. So opt for the empire lined dress, such as the baby doll style or similar in a short style to emphasis those lovely legs. You can also opt for A-line dresses, which fit at the hips and slowly widen out to create an A shape – this style also distracts the eye away from the stomach area to your curves.
What to avoid: Strappy tight dresses - so never go for the Madonna look if you are an apple.
The Hourglass
Slim at the waist, with bigger breasts and hips, the hour glass figure looks best adorned in low cut dresses that nip in at the waist. Slightly layered styles, which emphasise the waistline, with bright jewel colours will look marvelous on an hourglass this season.
What to avoid: Anything that does not emphasise your curves and waist, such as empire lines.
The Pear Bottom heavy, smaller on top, the pear with a larger bum and hips will suit A-Lines and prom styles, which skim over the bottom and hips, giving a more balanced look. Halter necks also look good on a figure with smaller boobs.
What to avoid: Tight outfits that particularly cling to the bottom and hips.
Slim
With no drastic curves, a slim shaped person is pretty much equal all over, thus they can get away with wearing very tightly fitting dresses, such as the bodycon, an the straight down shift dress. Slims this season should be seen in the latest sequined shift dress, a sparkling and complimentary outfit to any slim shape.
What to avoid: Stick to tight dresses and avoid ruffles or draped styles, as these will make you look bigger than you really are.
