what is the best low rank armour set in monster hunter tri?
I am looking for a really good armour set, I have full lagiacrus armour and full helios armour, I want armour which has really good skills as well...I like the handicraft skill and hg earplugs on helios but hate the blunt edge skill...and on lagiacrus I like all skills but I like handicraft too much...any suggestions for which armour to use that has good skill sets? And obviously good defence?
Lagi set is pretty good for low rank especially if you like to use weapons with elemental damage.
Whether an armor set is good or not depends on your weapon of choice.
SnS: Lagi is great because SnS has some of the highest elemental damage weapon. Even at low rank, SnS elemental damage is decent.
Lance: depends on if you block or evade more. Most beginner block more because it is easier to manager. If so, Agnaktor is great. As you advance with lance and use evade more, Barioth set is good.
Hammer: Evade with hammer is essential because you can't block with it. So again, Barioth set is good to go.
GS: Diablos gives crit draw and tremor-proof. Pretty useful when you charge which is the most powerful of GS attack.
SA: I would go with Los set because it boost attack. This is based on the fact that I don't dodge/evade a lot when I SA since I am very aggressive when I SA. I only dodge/evade deadly blow.
Handicraft: I won't worry too much about this skill for low rank because there isn't any weapon really need handicraft at low rank. The only weapon that really worth handicraft is Alatreon weapons.
HG earplugs: I don't use this skill at all because you can roll to avoid it. If you lance, you can counter attack. The only problem with roars is when I charge with hammer. Then again, the problem is minor if you know the monster's movie. That is, don't charge if you know it is going to roar and you sure can tell from their 'body language'. With GS, I don't charge unless I have enough time to do 3-charge which is usually when a monster turn itself around for 180°; and then just roll to evade roar. Knowing when to roll is essential when you GS. You can block with GS but it decrease its sharpness really fast so I don't do it unless I have to.
Mind's eye: this is actually a really good skill even for high rank. Ever try hitting Barroth's head and your weapon bounce off? You won't have that problem with Mind's eye (fencing) even with a low sharpness weapon. Unable to finish your attack means you cannot do combo and takes you longer to 'get back in position'. And that is a waste of valuable attack time. Unfortuately, you won't see this skill in any low rank set.
High rank: later on, you should do some mining in volcano to get some nice charms. A good charm can mean getting you a 5th skill or getting attack up (L) instead of just (M). And since charm's skill are really random, you most likely will need to mix and match pieces to get the skills you want.
